“Drawing Expo” started as an annual group exhibition curated by
Gabriel Deerman in 2007. Its mandate is to present a diverse spectrum of
artists from Canada and abroad working in the field of contemporary
drawing. “Drawing Expo” is a celebration of the imagination and fantasy
that flourishes within the transference of the artist's idea to the
drawn surface. New worlds are projected by this exciting medium. The
artists involved challenge disciplinary borders and definitions with
their varying approaches to the work. Using print media, collage, brush
and ink or the pen; from doodles to intricately executed renderings, the
question of ‘What is drawing?’ is posed as an invitation to the viewer
to ponder over and enjoy.
